Gene : AT3G23940 A. thaliana

Gene ID  ? AT3G23940
Brief Description  dehydratase family  Source: Araport11 (06/2016).
Is Obsolete?  false
Computational Description  ? dehydratase family; FUNCTIONS IN: copper ion binding, catalytic activity; INVOLVED IN: pollen development; LOCATED IN: chloroplast stroma, chloroplast; EXPRESSED IN: 23 plant structures; EXPRESSED DURING: 14 growth stages; CONTAINS InterPro DOMAIN/s: Dihydroxy-acid dehydratase (InterPro:IPR004404), Dihydroxy-acid/6-phosphogluconate dehydratase, conserved site (InterPro:IPR020558), Dihydroxy-acid/6-phosphogluconate dehydratase (InterPro:IPR000581).  Source: TAIR, Jun 30, 2015.
Curator Summary  ? Encodes a member of the dihydroxyacid dehydrates family of proteins that encode enzymes involved in branched chain amino acid biosynthesis. Loss of function mutations have significantly reduced transmission and fertility due to defects in male and female gametophyte development and embryo lethality. Mutants have increased sensitivity to abiotic stressors which may be partially compensated by addition of amino acids to the growth medium.  Source: TAIR, Jun 30, 2015.

Dihydroxyacid dehydratase (DHAD) is highly expressed in most vegetative and reproductive tissues. It is an essential gene, and complete disruption caused partial sterility in both male and female gametophyte phases. In addition, reduced expression of DHAD in knockdown mutants resulted in a reduction in the accumulation of all three BCAAs in roots and, as a consequence, led to a shorter root phenotype.[DHAD] 25399005
